Mustang....a Muscle car?

RE: Mustang....a Muscle car?
The mustang was the original pony car, but that is not to say that Ford hasn't turned out a few ponies along the way that would not qualify as Muscle cars. Some that immidiately come to mind are the hot 351 Windsors, and clevelands of the late 60s, and early 70s, andESPECIALLY the 390s- 428 Cobra Jetted muscle cars (Mach 1s, Shelbys, etc), and the Boss429s of 69-70...those cars were well used to putting BBChevys, Pontiacs, and Mopars in their place. Also Let us not forget that there were good size V8s long before theoriginal GTO (considered by most to be the first "muscle car"). Pony cars are basically sporty, quick cars with long hoods, and short rear decks, rwd, etc. I do not consider our newer cars to be true "muscle cars", although terms like modern muscle, modern sports cars, etc all do work.

This is one of the best worded replies to this thread.
And I have to laugh at the fact that this thread had to even come to being. Upset at all by the V6 members of the forum? From someone who went from comments like "My TV is more expensive than your mustang" to then in turncreate this type of thread says alot.

A 289 Mustang is not a Muscle Car. This isone of the reasons this argument gets so F'd up because some people assume any RearDrive v8 car from the late 60's and early 70's is a muscle car.

OK WHOEVER SAYS THEY ARE NOT MUSCLE CARS READ THIS AND REPLY PLS
ok so i saw a few post that say stright line 4 seats etc power... well guys to be honest the old mustangs stock with 289s.. were muscle cars and wern't THAT fast... so if my modern day can beat it in a stright line and on a roadcourse its no longer a muscle car why? because of new techonology over 40 or 50 years of research, i dont see how you can limit it to years, muscle car refers to the power a car has...hence the name MUSCLE ... power grr strength yeah so now that we have the technology to make tighter turns you're gonna strip cars of their muscle title? Also, interiors are nicer now adays than in the past... people drive miles everyday to work no one wants to start an 8 hour day at the office with a backache.. so basically the cars have become easierand more comfterable to drive.... so there not muscle cars, as for price, adjusted for inflation, theres not much of a difference at all..

RE: Mustang....a Muscle car?
i found out what a real muscle car was yesterday when a chevelle whooped on me. found out later it had a 502? 5 something in it and the thing is just nasty. Its one of the track cars that when the owner gets bored can be driven on the street... after you take the huge cowl off haha. he had no hood, guess he cant see with the cowl

Well I would consider our cars as modern muscle cars. z06 are sports cars. I think that newer cars that are 2 door v8 rwd american made are sports cars. And in no way what so ever are new chargers modern muscle. There just a sedan with a big engine thats if its a srt8.
