Default What next?

1. Don't say supercharger or turbo
2. Money isn't a problem
3. I plan on having this car for a while and just keep building and building

so....what should I do next. 2001 GT, bought stock. First I paid $75 for a friends superchips tuner. Then a K&N filter with C&L tube. Next came the Magnaflow magnapak catback. Then the Magnaflow catted x-pipe. Then a BBK 75mm throttle body with Trickflow 75mm upper plenum. Trickflow UDP. The rest was cosmetic. So now i'm stuck....I already have BBK ceramic LT sitting in my garage, but i don't know if i should install them or go for gears next or work on my cams/internals so i get the most out of my LT's. Master Ford wrench told me to install the LT with my mods will actually take me back a few horse until I increase my compression, new cams, etc. What's your opinion?

can you at least explain why no boost?

I mean, without any type of boost, your limited to around 350rwhp with NA, and if money isn't an problem, then really I still don't get why you don't want to go with a blower.

essentially, if you aren't going to run a blower or a turbo, your going to have to go

1. Forged rotating assembly, stroke to 302CID, 11.5:1 compression
2. Stage III Heads
3. Stage III N/A cams
4. electric water pump
5. T-56
6. 4.56:1 rear gears
7. better than hell suspension

(okay, some of this is just to poke fun)

there are a couple guys on here running NA combinations, I think the fastest two have/are in the process of selling their cars for foxes, whereas the boosted guys are just loving every minute of it

it isn't like the new 05'-08's that are able to have like 400rwhp, so.....

I feel blowin' it is kind of a quick fix, like I said I plan on having this car for a while...as in a decade or so...so I don't want to throw a supercharger in it and be done. Think about if you got that "perfect" perm in the 70's....by today I'm sure you would be tired of it. If I wanted all the power right away I would have just bought it that way. I want to see a slow, but hard earned, progression.

honestly if money is no object i would buy your favorite bodystyle stang and do a complete rebuild from the bottom up, i doubt if you would ever get tired of it,i doubt i'll ever get tired of my cobra.

you can see the numbers under my sig right? that didn't really come over night, it took three years of building to just get to the point where it was capable of that. Just saying, oh, well turboing is a quick fix, I think is wrong.

Think of it this way, everyone respects massive power, and trust me on this, hearing that turbo spool will make you cream your pants, considering it's accompanying the roar of a V8. You know that saying "some people respect the badge, everybody respects the gun", it's a very old law enforcement saying. its kind of the same thing, some people respect the mustang, everyone respects a turbo v8

I mean hell, i'm not even close to done with my car, I have to wait a few months to drive it because I'm having so many parts installed it's going to be out of commission. Everytime I do something, power goes up, and it becomes more fun.

I mean you can do the same thing for turbo/blower cars that your planning on doing for your NA set up, there are quite a few people on this sight who did that, oxfordgt being one of them. Right now he's NA, and his car is faster than cobras, and he hasn't even gon FI (forced induction) yet.

I mean, like what some of us did, I'll give you an example

first, if your building your car for a purpose, like mine is, first thing that goes is the rotating assembly (crank, rods, pistons). I would reccommend going with a cobra crank (forged steel), forged H beam rods (manley is some of the best) and forged pistons (I'm running mahle, but there are many different brands that are good). as opposed to NA, you would want to run lower compression, so a dished piston is a good idea, so that your not running the risk of pre-ignition.

you'll want to upgrade the ignition, the heads/cams to a nice blower combination. for use with FI, you'll want a certain type of cam that doesn't allow for the boost to exit through the exhaust valves.

if your looking for an all out build, you'll want to upgrade your transmission, so something like a built T5, such as a TKO 500 or 600 (600 has a better overdrive gear from what I remember), or you can look at getting a 6spd, T-56, or you can get a built 6spd, the viper spec t-56.

You can upgrade the rear, go for heavier duty axles, 31 spine, look at getting something like a detroit true trac (limited slip diff), or even some eaton built diff's are pretty damn good. Or you can do what I'm doing, and find a 2003-2004 cobra owner who wants a drag car, and swap the IRS out.

as you can see, building a blower/turbo car is more complex than just slapping a blower on and calling it a day, and at the end of the day, the car is going to feel amazing with all of the power, and as you said, you will have built it up.

Now, most of these things can be done for N/A cars, just different parts are used

I agree absolutely 100% . thats the entire reason I'm doing what I am, and why I'm driving a street legal race car

If you really dont want to go FI, then I would probably go with a gears (4.10s), then down the road I would purchase some internals, and throw the LTs on at the same time. Just my .02
