Default Basic tools

So as I'm moving into my first house I find myself with next to no tools, let alone some for my car. My question is: would anyone have a list of basic tools that would prove helpful in order for me to do basic bolt on upgrades, oil changes, and things like that?

Check out Sears, they offer some great deals on socket sets. Craftsman is also lifetime warranty.

While your at Sears, check out their floor jacks, jack stands and mechanic gloves. Stick with the Craftsman brand hand tools and ignore the other brand that they carry.

yeah they usually come in a set with standard and metric, theres theres little black toolboxes with 4 red drawers,(maybe 5 i dont wanna check right now)its a hell of a deal really, comes with sockets(a whole set), all wrenches size like 7-25mm? and their standard equivelent, allen wrenches, just about every size you're ever gonna use and adapters and extentions for different size drives, its a craftsman and its freaking sweet to have. Also pick up a rubber mallet and a breaker bar lol never know when ur gonna need em.

I used to only buy Craftsman and I have a few Snap on tools. But, recently I have only bought Kobalt from Lowes. They have a lifetime warranty and a lil less $$ than Craftsman. I have been VERY happy with them.

My starter list would be:

Socket set with SAE and metric in 3/8 drive
wrenches, both SAE and metric
swivel
short, medium and long extensions for ratchet
3/8 ratchet
set of screw drivers
a small extending mirror
an extending magnet
set of allen wrenches
set of feeler gauges
5/8 spark plug sicket (straight wall for mod motors)
channel locks
pliers
vice-grips
needle nose pliers

I broke a screw driver and bought a ratchet wrench set that onr wrench didn't ratchet. They exchanged them out...no questions asked. Also on the ratchet wrench, they tore open the packge for the set and removed the one I needed and gave me the new one.
