Crank is the shortblock?
okay, a shortblock is everything minus heads and intake basically. It includes the crankshaft, the rods, and pistons.

What you have wrong with yours might not be anything more than just the little berrings that reside within the rods. If everything else is okay, why go through the hassle of basically buying a whole new engine, rather than just fixing what is broken.

Look at MMR they sell good engines. Ihave heard peoplelooking for a wrecked navigator 97 -03 i believe, 4 valve 5.4L from a junk yard and theybuild it up from there. Ya unfortunatly i blew my motor and bought another stock motor with out looking around. I Payed 4k with install and regret it everyday that i drive it. Search google, yahoo, etc, before you make a decision. MMR has engines that start around 2500 i believe. Good luck!
I've seen three MMR900s pop in the last year with three different owners. MMR wouldn't get a red cent from me....

To the OP, if you 've decided to replace the short block then your next step is to decide what your needs are. What are your ultimate power goals? Theshort blockyou listed from ebay looks okay but I don 't think it hasa forged crank. If your ultimate power goalsdon 't exceed its limits, then it may work for you. There are a number of well known - and not so well known - companies thatput out a good product. Asstated in a previous post, you should grab one of theMustang magazines and flip through the ads for engine builders. Lastly, you 'recorrect about the long block assembly.Your heads, timing gear, intake, etc.would be reused on the new short block to make it a complete engine.

I might supercharge it like in 3 years when I graduate. For now, I want to upgrade the headers when I fix the engine to save on labor charger for the headers. Then maybe pullies, you know just the basic bolt ons. Supercharger later in the future. So I'm probably looking at no more than 350 HP with exhaust, intake, headers, pullies. So with these upgrades in mind, what words and phrases should I look for when looking for a shortblock?

Thanks for the help everyone!

I'm surprised no one has suggested to just drop in a used 03-04 Cobra engine..This would seem the perfect excuse to do so..

If not going that route, I agree with what some said, of taking the engine apart and accessing the damage... you might be able to get the engine freshened up with few new parts... and your #'s will still match.

Why waste the money on a 03 cobra engine when you can build a must stronger and more powerfull one for half the price.

Since I'll have the heads out at one point, would it be worth port and polishing the heads? The car had about 83000 miles on it. How much HP would it free up if its worth doing? Anyone know the cost?

Thanks!

Scratch that last post, I think I'm gonna buy a long block instead of buying a short block. No point in port and polishing the heads right? If I get a long block? Would it be worth port and polishing the intake manifold? I'm trying to get something out of this engine overhaul, maybe a little power somewhere. I'm gonna get headers and pullies, but I'm looking at some other inexpensive upgrades.

Any suggestions?

I don't get it, is there something else wrong with your engine that your looking for a whole new one? I mean, I think all they would have to do to is drop the oil pan to replace the berrings if that's all thats wrong, couldn't be more than $1000, but did your mechanic tell you about your options? I would think a longblock would be the last option you would choose, a longblock is going to be around $7,000 you relize that it is basically a crate engine right?

I mean if your just going to get a crate engine, just look at FRPP or jeggs, they all seem to be at least $6,000 so good luck, if it were me, I would just the the berrings or whatever replaced, or have the engine rebuilt with stock parts, and spend alot less.
