Shimming the brakes?
acctually those shims that go on the back of the brake pad do help reduce the squeling of the pad aganist the caliper. if you buy cheap brake pads they dont come with them and you have to reuse your old ones. they do serve a purpose there not just there for sh*ts and giggles. im an ase master tech and i always put them on and ive never had a squeak out of a brake job no matter what pads i used.
Well I thought they might have a reason but never affected me before. Thanks for the advice.
Did you torque the lugnuts with the weight of the car on the studs?? That's the ONLY way you're guaranteed to get exact torque, and the surfaces are completely flush..
I never used the shims, in the 4 or 5 times I did brakes on my New Edge.. Just some grease on the back of the pads, and throw them in.. I also made sure to depress the pedal a few times before I tightened the master cylinder cap, and then rode out..
