I have a 97 Convertible GT.I was considering selling it,but then I just decided to keep it and buy a 97 Suburban for a tow rig.
My question is I am in need of a rebuild,my car has started burning oil.I wanted to know if I can swap out a gt for a cobra motor,what in all do I have to change or is it cheaper to rebuild what I got.I have researched and some people were saying go to the junkyard and pick up a low mileage motor of the same type and drop it in.Done.
I want some more out of my mustang.
So,I figured a cobra swap would work,but I am not sure.Thanks

 

one other thing,I was also looking at the 5.0 motor from the 94-95?? would that work??

 

Cobra motor is a direct swap. 5.0 you will need the Kmember from a 94-95 and dranny and driveshaft. If you go fuel injected on the 5.0 it will cost you.

 

So cobra is direct swap,then that is the best deal,correct? All my motor mounts and everything will work?
I guess there all I would need to do is change out the rear end gears?
Will the cobra motor give me any more hp?

 

Also I have an automatic trans,will that bolt up or do I need the trans out of the cobra?
I am assuming I need the engine and ecm???

 

u don't need to swap the computer. You can just have a tune flashed to the computer already in the car.

 

well that should save some money there then.
