Default Tuner Pointless???

Hi, I just bought a 1998 mustang about 2 months ago. I want to put gears in it and the local HP shop said I need to get a tuner so my speedo will be correct. BUT my car is a 5 speed.. Would I get any other benefits from the tuner besides an accurate speedo?

Also.. what should it cost to have an odometer gear replaced?

Thanks guys

depends on the gearing, if you get anything 4.10 or steeper you will need a speed-cal, which you have to INSTALL in-line with your wireing from the speedo-sensor on the transmission to the cluster. If its anything 3.73 or lower you can just use a gear to fix the speedo. The gear you can do yourself in like 15 min, and the gears run like 5-15 bucks. the speed-cal runs about $110. also for your application a "tuner" willnot fix your speedometer. you need the speed-cal. so if you buy a tuner you will be **** out of luckto fix your speedo when you install gears.
