Default tko500?

well my tranny is pretty messed up and i need to get a new one asap. i have looked at some rebuilt 3650 ones on ebay and have found them from 600-950. i wouldnt have a problem paying for that but do u guys think it is worth the extra money to get a tko 500? the 3650 treated me good untill 3rd gear and reverse took a crap on me. car has 57000 on it. i plan to build it up sooner or later. only makin 360/455 right now with bolt ons and a 100 shot.

The 3650 is only rated for 360 ft.lbs. torque, so if you are putting out 455 at whatever rpm you are overloading it to a pretty good extent...

What rear-end gears do you have? If you are geared low (4.10s or better) you may want to look at the TCET5008 TKO-600 which has a 2.87:1 first gear. I have 3.73s and if I was looking at a new tranny that would be the one I'd pick.

BTW-the TKO-500 and TKO-600 are the same. it's just that the higher 1st gear (lower numerically, 2.87:1 in the '600 vs. 3.27:1 in the '500) let's it have a higher torque rating...

Go with viper T56 if you have the funds.

I would not want a 6-speed in a DD either, it serves no purpose unless you are road-racing, or just like shifting gears. BTW, the T-56 in no stronger than a TKO-600...

I know the only difference in the 500 and 600 is the first gear ratio but I know a lot of folks that have had problems with the 600. The 500 seems to shift easier from the people I've talked to as well. A buddy of mine had a 600 and it broke the first week he had it. He swaped to the 500 and has been running 620 rwhp on slicks for over a year with no problems. I run over 500 rwhp on the stock 3650 with no problems though.

You can go with a TKO for your car, or we can build you up to a 700hp rated 3650. The 3650 is a few hundred dollars less and you don't have to buy a bell, cross member or any other parts to put it in. If you prefer the TKO we can do that too, but the 3650 can be made pretty bulletproof and we do have customers running in the 8's with them every weekend.

Can you do a 3650 with the 2.87 1st gear?

I have a slightly modified but highly tweaked tuned '03 GT (260 HP/305 ft/lbs) and find that the 3.38 1st gear is just too low, making it difficult to hook up and then bouncing off the rev-limiter 4 to 5 mS later...

That all depends on the gearing in the T-56... the Viper spec has a .50 6 gear which could increase your MPG at higher highway speeds.
