he's still not going to be able to go much higher in the rpm range with a stock auto tranny.

Question

ZW99GT: I inputed all of the numbers you mentioned, but it requires a mph speed to be inserted?! I inputed my trap speed and it gave me the following?!:

1st. gear 17313
2nd. gear:9449
3rd. gear:6096
4th. gear:4267

I do not know if I am reading this correctly, but it makes no sense to me at all?! Am I supposed to put my trap speed into the mph box, or another speed figure?! I am planning on going with a lentec automatic transmission, once the other engine is done.

Thanks, Dave

Question

Here are the numbers that I inserted for my 4R70W:

1st. gear:2.84
2nd. gear:1.55
3rd. gear:1.00
4th. gear:0.70

Tire size:315-35-17

Axle ratio: 4.10

Trap speed: 113.6

I just do not understand the numbers that were thrown back at me?!

Thanks, Dave

I ordered a set of Ford Motor Sport 3:73 gears today, which should work much better with the Kenne Bell setup. On the Moroso power speed slide calculator, it should support me up to 126mph., which I will not see with my stock bottom end anyway. The car may also be a little easier to launch as well, and will not trip on the rev limiter at the top end of the track. Is there anybody else on the boards with an 01' GT and 4R70W transmission, and might have had the same problem with thier car?! I ran into another guy at Tasca performance day at New England Dragway, and he had a Kenne Bell automatic 02' GT. I wish I was able to speak with him more, but I think he took off early?

Dave.

my opinion? I think you should go back to 3.55:1 gears with the KB You have too much torque with the KB to be running 4.10:1 gears. I've heard this from about 6 different GT500 owners, and countless Termi owners. They have all said that 3.55:1's were perfect to hook up.

2000AZ5.0GT..........

Yes the car is very challenging to launch with the 4:10's, but remember my car is an automatic and not a stick like the GT500 and Terminator Cobra's. The 3:73's should be just about perfect, to max out the combination I have in my car right now. My winter plan is to go with a built motor (forged), so I can really crank up the boost. I have a snow performance boost cooler setup, that I never got around to installing this year. I will hold off installing the boost cooler setup for the built motor, and then the gloves will be off! I plan on heading back up to new England Dragway, for street night next Wednesday to finish off the season. I am hoping to crack into the 11's, before putting my car away for the winter. If any of you New England guy's on here go to street night's up there, let me know if you will be there next Wednesday.

Thanks, Dave

We'll I put the 3:73's into the rear, and made one last trip to the drags before putting the car into winter hibernation. The best 1/4 mile time of the night was 11.980 @118.17mph, that was with a 1.681 short time, 5.065 at the 330, 7.754 @91.52mph in the 1/8mile and 10.059 at the thousand ft. mark. I ran consistent 11.90's and low 12.0's, but still feel as though I could have done a little better. If I changed out the stall converter, maybe a shift kit, and some suspension work maybe I could have ran into the mid 11's?

Thanks.....I was aiming for the 11's, so I really have to be happy with the way the car is pulling. The car hooks pretty good, as long as I try to not foot brake it past the converters limit. I was holding the foot brake on the tree at about 1,400 rpm's, and just dropping the hammer on green. I tried to push the converter past this point on the street, and the car would be all over the road. I got into the 11's on a stock bottom end, stock heads, stock aode tranny and leagally with cats on my car. I cannot wait until spring, so I can hit the track and whittle my times down even more.
