Do not start it up. With the cold temperatues and the heat of the engine, condensation can develop inside the engine.

I wash, wax, inflate tires, park it in my garage (concrete floor) ontop of a plastic barrier, the tires rest on top of 3/4 inch rubber mats (left over cow mats; Farm&Fleet), car cover, disconnect the battery, put steel wool in the exhaust tips, dryer sheets in the inside, leave a window slightly open, fill up the tank, add Stabil, and make a list of things that I need to do before I take it out of storage next season and put it on my steering wheel. Oh, and I make sure I park it close enough to the wall so I can move my snow blower in and out of the garage easily. Damn Snow! Not looking forward to it

Some also recommend that you turn your engine over about once a month, just so the valve springs aren't stuck in the same compressed state for too long. I just read that if you press your gas pedal all the way open throtle while you crank it, the engine won't actually fire up, just turn over.

Man, I'm going to have to print this up to use as a check list, lol

+1 to that If you can have someone turn it over once a month or so if you can.

Pressing the gas all the way to the floor and holding it will shut off the injectors when it is turning over and the engine wont actually fire, it will just turn.

I've parked my car over the past 4 winters for 4-5 months at a time with no starts. It's not going to hurt anything.

I've got a 'carbag' that you literally zip up AROUND the entire car.
The last 3 winters I was parked on MT's, so I put some rubber mats underneath them. (cant hurt anything)
Mothballs under the car, window cracked, battery pulled, fluids full, stabil added..

its not rocket science,, some people like to get overly obsessive, but nothing should happen
(and I'm from Indiana, so I know what our winters are like ,, not HORRIBLE, but still ugly from time to time)

I actually just got a carbag for cost from my work. I plan on putting the cover on and then the carbag. I park the car in a carport so it's sheltered from snow and everything but the wind still gets it. My cover almost completely blew off last winter so I'm hoping the carbag takes care of that.

As long as you've got a cover over the car, and then the car bag, you'll be fine.

Obviously it'd be best in a garage because as you know, the bag is little more than a tarp that fully encloses everything, but it, with the cover, under a car port should be more than enough to keep her cozy in hibernation.
