Default Engine Builders Only.

OK, so I"ve been thinking lately. Sometime around 2010 I planned on having enough money to buy a D.S.S. 4.6 super modular long block. The guy's over at the Modular Mustang Racing forum suggest I buy a MMR block " NATURALLY ". One guy new someone who had a D.S.S. block and said they had problems with it. To make a long story short..I'll have enough money to buy what ever, " I HOPE "

My question is: Do I really need a D.S.S. or MMR or FRPP block to be able to handle 700 rwhp.
I was thinking about buying a balanced forged rotating assembly and a new block and building my own engine. With the money I save I could buy new heads and upgrade to a D1sc maybe even just buy a F1 unit.
So, what are your thought on this.
Build it or Buy it.

Build it and use your own block. You will save over $1000 by building over buying it.

If i were to build it, I'd buy another block because my car is my dd and the swap would be a saturday project. Besides, it doesnt hurt to have an extra block laying around.

You'll still save around $1000

My block cost $2100 to build and its built to withstand 1000hp.

are you dead set on a particular size block? (you would have more options outside of the 281)

I'm sticking with the 4.6 2v because I prefer not to spend more money swapping harnesses and control moduals etc..

Can the actual block hold 1000hp?

Thats what Im concerned about. Im no engine builder, but I dont think a factory 4.6 2v block is going to hold up very long with 1000hp.

I'd look into pickin up a 96-98 Cobra block and crank. Aluminum and have been known to hold plenty of power. You can get whole Mark VIII motors for like 150$ at junkyards...and keep the block.

The reason I would use a stock 4.6L block is because if any of you read Brothers In Arms in Dec issue of MMFF you'd remember that the stock 2005 4.6L engine with forged internals made 704 hp with 20 psi.
If the 2005 4.6L mustang block is different from my 2003 4.6L tell me.

The stock iron GT/ 03-04 cobra block is the strongest block ford ever made. It will handle near 2000hp. The Teksid block is not the strongest block it is only the strongest aluminum block.
