Got you. Thanks. I guess I'll still have to think about what to get. Either sniper's or the LC-1. Should I even consider AEM's $200 wideband system?

I know that a wideband is necessary for any real tuning but just for the sake of data logging can it be done.
You can data log the stock sensor data with recon, or a number of other products, however what you will record will be mostly useless.

The stock sensors are narrowband sensors, and what that means in simple terms is that all they can report is that the AFR is rich or lean relative to an AFR of 14.7:1. In the realtime task of running an engine this is fine as the PCM can control the injector pulse width (in closed loop mode) so as to maintain an average AFR of 14.7:1.

However in open loop mode the narrowband O2 sensor output becomes irrelevant and lookup tables are used to "guesstimate" AFR.

A wideband sensor OTH is capable of reporting the actual AFR (it really can't, and requires a controller to actually measure AFR), this is what can be captured and logged by a compatible PC application.

Short story, the stock sensors are great for running an engine and useless (not completely, but pretty much) for tuning...

If I had it to do over, I would only consider a system that let me log wideband AFR (actually I did but I got screwed by Innovate), and at least rpm, simultaneously. I do not know that AEM's system does or does not permit this--I do know that Sniper's WB sensor system does.

Innovate's LC-1 and OT-1 combination promises to do this--it does NOT, the LC-1 as a stand-alone and LogWorks will let you log AFR but not rpm.

I have one last question before this thread gets swept away.

If I get the sniper SF tuning software, and I need to have a parameter adjusted that can not be adjusted using the SF software. Could I send my tune to someone that does have the Commando package and have them make the necessary adjustments or would that count as one of their 2 vehicles tuned?

You can have someone make adjustments.. whether or not they charge you for it is a dif story. I have had ppl take my files and modify them for free. others have charged 20 bucks. No it will not charge you for another bullet. as long as the box code remains the same everything is AAAAOK

EDIT: if you have any questions at any time you can PM me or Cliff there is a lot of other knowledgeable ppl who have it on here i just dont remember their names. You can also join up at snipertuningforums . com

One guy over on the Corral forums has a website www.dirtydirtyracing.com

He charges for tunes and I think he is a sniper dealer.

What others have said is true, however to clarify the person to whom you send your tune would have to have Commando and the same box code as your car (or purchase the template for your car's PCM)--or have Delta Force which comes with all templates. Also keep in mind that once you have a Special Forces tune modified in that manner you will not be able to modify it further with SF--you will need to get it exactly the way you want it with SF and then send it out for the low-level changes.

If you think that there might be low-level parameters you would wish to change (those unreachable by SF), then I would strongly suggest you consider spending the additional money and get Commando in the first. Commando is the same application as Delta Force (the dealer version) the only difference being it comes with only one Delta Force template for your car (also included are SF and Recon).

Well a lot of this is over my head and perhaps it's been answered, but I'll present my scenario and if someone wants to answer, that would be great. I recently installed 3.73s, I also have an O/R prochamber which has of course produced the CEL. I also have the 2.5" Mac catback. Those are my mods. Obviously I need to recal. the speedo and I want to turn the rear O2s off. I probably won't be buying an AF meter and I also won't be spending $680 for the commando. My question is..I can buy a "canned" tune from say Brenspeed Xcal for $379, give them all my info, mods, etc, and they load all the tunes. What advantage would I have buying the SF over the Xcal? My hesitation with getting a SF and entering parameters myself is a fear of royally *@(&@ing something up because I'm ignorant when it comes to tuners.
