Default Best DD for under $20k?

I have been doing a lot of research on switching cars, but have decided to de-stress and see what all of you would do.

Just wondering what car you would go with as a DD for under $20k? Only stipulation is that it would be the only vehicle you could have and you have to deal with driving in some snow and icy conditions (I live in PA)

Thanks, and hopefully it will be a fun thread for some of you.

both have tranny issues the evo box is supposedly pretty weak on hard launches but so are the sti's center differentials as well. if i were gonna drag an evo a good clutch and 5 speed built trans would be one of my first mods.

ahh ok. The evo sti debate will always end in nil lol.. I like the styling and sound of the STI thats why i would pick em. From everything i have read the evo usualy wins round a track tho(older versions) cant speak for the new body styles.

i personally HATE both new body styles. i would pick the evo for the fact the 4g63 is a tried and true motor and in my opinion much easier to work on and manage compared to the sti (tune ups on boxers are a pain) and i would hate to have to do cams or head work on the sti. cam swap on the evo would be easy. also i hear the sti computer doesnt like mods at all unless its tuned.

If i got a sti i dont even think i would mod it. maybe slap some hi end tires on it but in stock form(what 300hp?) that would tear up an auto x track
