Default Interior Swap

Hey guys I am going to be swappin my tan interior for partial tan and black. I have a 99 and they came with the single din dashes but am wondering if i could buy a 01+ one and just cut off the bottom part where the buttons would be on the 01+? THe 01+ come with the double din and i wanna put a touch scree/navi in there (not one that comes out but one that is always there, built in) That is the only part that looks different between the two?

What they don't show in that pic are the brackets used to mount the panel to the dash frame. Very different. You could make it work, but it would take some fabrication in a pretty inconveinent space.
