Problems w/ 4.6L Town Car
I am doing head gaskets in a 92 Town Car w/ the 4.6L. After all the BS to get to the heads, I am ready to take them off. I pull the timing cover off and am getting ready to take the timing chains off. My problem is that I am trying to get the car to TDC. I started to rotate it and I hit a point where the crank will not rotate any more. It hits firmly and will not go. Until that point, everything feels great. After trying it a few times, I think it is catching at the rear of the engine but, I am not sure. I have the car in Neutral and the parking brake is off. I have not messed w/ the cams or chains at all. All I have done is take the timing cover and valve covers off. Does anyone have an idea on what the deal may be? I really cannot think of anything at all. The only thing that I can think of is that something is wrong w/ the tranny and it isnt disengaging(although it ran up until I started to tear it apart). Also, I may have lost a 8mm socket. I have paper towels stuffed in the intake ports and spark plug ports but, maybe that fell in and is catching between the piston and valve. I doubt that too since I just picked up the socket wrench and the socket was gone. I didnt hear any clinking at all.
Thanks for any help.
Thanks for any help.

There is a spot where all the pistons are below deck when the crankshaft is at 9 oclock. You might be better off having it there then at tdc. This way you don't have the worry about crushing the valves on one of the cylinders when you are putting the heads back on
