Default Head install cost?

A friend of mine just got his hands on a pair of '00 GT heads and he wants to know how much is installation. A friend of his, who is a certified mechanic, claims its a 7 hour job @ $80 per hour is $560 but he's only gonna charge him $290. Does this sound right? How much have you guys pay for head installations?

If his mechanic friend has access to a lift and air tools, it is a 6-8 hour job. I did it in my garage on jackstands. Took a bit longer, but not too bad. I've done a few at work, not on a Mustang, though, and it was a full days work. So 7 hours is fair.

I'm an amateur mechanic at best and I was able to take off one head and replace it. Took me much longer than it should have.

If I could have paid 300 dollars to have BOTH replaced and reinstalled, I might have considered it. But I know it would have cost TONS more than that.

The price is going to vary between 800-1000. I looked in to it and was quoted 850.

Tell your friend that you'll help and just do it yourselves.

It's a tough job, but by NO means is it impossible. Just be patient, mark bolts as you take em out, and follow directions.

It's very very doable. Hell, I did it w/o breaking anything.

*well, I broke things later*
