What Percentage Tint should i get?
Well guys, after a year of owning my car, i got sick and tired of having the sh*tty ford factory solar tint on my windows (both this car and my previous mustang). So i ripped it off with a blow dryer, a razor, and a careful hand.. The rear window was by far THE worst.. i still have little pieces of tint on there (its barely noticeable) but i refuse to play with the rear window anymore bc i dont want to chip my defroster..
Anyway, i had the sticky residue left all over my windows, and was going at it with goo-gone, which failed, so i tried rubbing alcohol, which worked but with a LOTTT of elbow grease. And then my dad came out with a can of "Denatured Alcohol" and the residue came off SOOOO easily.. Overall, it took me about 4 hours to remove my tint (would have been 2ish if my rear window wasn't a 3-piece tint-job and if i would have known to use the denatured alcohol from the start)
SOOOOO, my windows look plain as can be, and i need some opinions on what tint percentage to go with...
5% is out of the question.. It's basically either i go 15%, or 20%... lemme know!!! i have black leather so im hoping 20% will look dark if thats all the tint place carries (most places carry 5/20/35).
P.S. - Don't be afraid to pull off your own tint.. The places up here charge $150 so i just saved myself a lot of money. It's not rocket science, but it is very tedious

i had 20% on my car for 2 years. it was dark for the northeast but now that im in the southwest its not enough. recently got the back and 1/4's tinted 5%. i think im probably going to put another layer of 35 or 20 on the drivers and sides to darken them up a bit more.

fast99 - I want 5%, but it's WAY too dark to see out of!! I was going to try the steel wool idea, but i was nervous about it scratching the window. Oh well. Tint is gone now besides the lower part of the back window in one section bc i cant reach it =/
Thanks for the pics of the s10.. that 35% looks dark!!!
and i can tell the difference between 15% and 20%!!! The place that carries the 15% charges $270ish for a tint job... Im going to a $100 lifetime warranty one.. If it's a lifetime warranty, how bad of a deal can it be? I'm not paying nearly $300 for tint. But you are right 2k1, 15% and 20 are very close... I'll get 15 if they have it. If not i guess i'll go 20%, unless you guys think that having the backs darker than the fronts will look better...
mvr - what tint is that in your sig? 20% all around? looks dark, but you ARE in the shade so idk
and +1 to 20% being able to see at all times. But darker is always better
