Question Brakes?

I just had my front rotors turned and went to put my front replacement brake pads on. After putting the brake pads on and tightening the lower bolt back, I noticed it would not stop spinning. I noticed that a spacer was spinning with it and held it tight and spun the bolt. After doing a test drive, the brakes worked fine, but felt spongy when I applied firm braking action. The pedal travels a little too far. Doesn't have that tight stopping power.
I was wondering, is this normal?

BTW, original rotors, 82K miles. The pads are Duralast Gold Ceramics.

Sounds to me like you may need to bleed the brakes. Did you lose any brake fluid when you pushed the caliper pistons back in? Have you checked the fluid level in the reservoir.

I checked the fluid, no fluid loss. Could there be air in the lines? I just dont understand how a simple brake pad change would cause that.
Anymore suggestions would be appreciated.

Thank you,
Phil.

I have never bled brakes before, how complicated is it?

you didn't bleed the brakes when you changed the pads? why not?

it's not hard, you just need someone else to be there with you to step on the brake pedal. Unless you buy that solo-brake bleeding pump

No, didn't think to do it. I thought you only needed to bleed the brakes when you reached a certian number of mileage.
Could you explain what ALL is involved with bleeding the brakes please. I am just working with the front brakes, the rears are ok for now. I appreciate the feedback.

Thank you,
Phil

Problem solved. I just did a gravity bleed. I pumped the brakes with the brake fluid reservoir cap off and blew the air bubble out.

Thanks for your help guys.
