ding ding ding ding... the same reason you can 450 rwhp on a cobra and 400 on a GT. And its not that 500 rwhp is the safe limit on a 3v... you just might be able to get away with it, just like lots of cobras and even GTs are able to get away with it.

makes sense. typically 10#'s of boost on a 3v wll give u around 465 rwhp but on a very safe and fat tune. i dont know a hole lot about wut 2v's can handle buti havent seen to many stock bottom end 2v's with 465 rwhp expecially at 10#'s. so i can c y u would need more boost meaning more stress on the engine to even come close to those #'s.....i love 3v's

Lightbulb Here's the answer

The 3V bottom ends are far superior to the 2V bottom ends, and it has nothing to do with the heads. The rods in the 6 cylinder 05+ are forged. The rods in the rods in the v8 05+ are Cracked powdered metal with floating wristpins.
Here is a really good stat sheet on the 05+

I maybe be loosing my mind here but aren't all the 2v short blocks using the same junk powdered rods too?

well considering the v-6 isn't a 3v, and the V8 doesnt have forged rods, I dont know where your going with this. I am not sure I believe that the v-6 has forged rods, that article may have been writing based on different information, there was supposed to be a twin turbo v6 engine version to come out, and I thought that they built that v6 motor in anticpation of using it for that also, but since I dont know what happened to that plan, Im not sure if they made it into production with forged internals, I looked at some v6 pages and found lots of people swapping in forged internals into their 2005+ v6 stangs... so I dont know

The biggest difference is the pistons!! The 3V's are a better design/material then the 2V piston.

It is rare for us to see a piston go bad before the rod "makes a window" . The 2V is just the opposite. They always crack / break the top ring land. That is why you rarely see broken rods in the 2V...pistons let go first.

If you look at pictures, the 3v rods actually look a whole hell of alot worse off than the 2v ones...

as everyone else said, its the heads..

Same reason you see cam, blower 2v cars, making in the upper 400s and lasting..

same reason you see 4v cars run 500ish rwhp and not have a problem...

500whp on a mach 1 or 99/01 cobra is asking for trouble.
