Default Dyno Tune?

I want to get some 4.10's in there pretty soon and thought about buying a SCT tuner with it but my dyno guy said it isnt worth it and to just get a custom dyno tune. What exactally can he do with the dyno tune?

I kind of figured I should wait until I get the o/r midpipe, TB/plenum and maybe a cold air intake and underdrive pullies. Is that a good idea or would it not matter?

The car would benefit more if you got the bolt ons, then the tune, instead of the tune, then the bolt ons.

Having a speedo that is off sucks. I went several months without recalibrating my speedo on my car, and now I don't have a clue as to how many miles are 'exaggerated' on my odometer.

You shouldnt waste your money on a dyno tune unless you have real power mods like heads/cams/f.i. Either way, you could use the tuner in the future when you get an actual dyno tune.

The OEM 87 octane tune sucks, and a 93 octane tune, even on a dead stock car, will provide substantial power gains in the 2500 to 4500 RPM range. Peak HP will not benefit that much, however down there where you really use it on the street the difference is quite dramatic. I have done this on 3 or 4 stock new-edge GTs (my brother's was one) and the owners have all come back smiling.

My advice is to open up the exhaust first with a 2-1/2", catted or o/r (this really doesn't matter), H or X-pipe and a catback--then get a tune or preferably a tuner--or get the tuner first as you'll be needing it eventually.

The guy at the mustang shop I talked to said I dont need to buy a tuner, he could just flash it himself.

Would he need a tuner or would he be able to do it without one?

He told me I didn't need to get a tuner and he can just custom flash it himself. Would this be possible or is he full of it?

You could do that but whenever you get new boltons your going to need to take it to him again and reflash it while if you have a tuner, you just have to update it.
