u said commonly found on V6's, was your car a v6 before?

anyways, if it came from the factory like that, It was meant to stay. so your warranty will not cover it. maybe you could try your insurance some how? other then that, autozone has some good touch up paint. Just get some clear coat and some 1000 grid sand paper. It will turn out better then you think

I had the heat gun set to 120 deg f. Tell me how that is going to damage it? Your paint gets way hotter than that sitting in the sun on a summer day. I'm not a total dumb ***. It's not like I set it to 1000 deg

Your paint begs to differ.

Well all I can do is state what really happened. Some will believe me and some will not. I am the third owner of the car who is to say the trim was not installed to cover up bad paint spots? I only used the heat gun for the very corner of the trim. The portion where the paint was messed up was far away from the spot I used the gun. Thanks to those who have tried to help and for everyone else who was no help, thanks for leaving me with a negative out look on the community as a whole.

Do you think there is a correlation there?

You have to get all the adhesive heated up to get it to come off right, not just the corner.

well actually... using a heat gun to remove molding from your door proves your intelligence... (here is a hint... your not going to impress the ladies with a high IQ)

painters use heat guns to remove paint from many things... old houses usually, but i've witnessed it done on cars.

while you prolly used it thinking that it would weaken the bond between the molding and your door paint. but since the molding acted as an insulator it was actually much hotter than the heat being directed at it. so basically you softened the paint and whamo... your molding comes off with paint attached.

whenever you have something that has been attached to the door for 8 years... its always going to require a painter to remove and respray the door.

Well, looks like since I can't afford to have my doors repainted I will be trying to find more of this ugly *** molding to put back on I only used the heat gun to weaken the first part of the bond at the edge. I didn't care that it left adhesive as I planned to use 3m adhesive remover to get it off. I have done this before and never had this problem. The paint was bubbled all the way down the door even with me only using the heat gun on less than an inch of it. Sorry for the crabby attitude, but surely you can feel my pain...esp if you just bought the car

I can get it touched up it seems with some touch up paint...but there is some obvious discoloration where the trim was before. Tried wet sanding and it doesn't seem to help. I have everything from like 800 grit up to 12000 micromesh

hell, just spray paint the doors with a glossy color for awhile..

then, once you've got some cashed saved up, talk to some paint shops and see what it'll cost to get a pair of doors repainted,, i can't imagine it'll be more than 200 dollars...
