Default Broke Ebrake !

So the bolt that holds down my ebrake totally ripped through the stupid thin metal frame holding it down. My ebrake has always been really tight / hard to pull up, just this time when i yanked it up the whole thing ripped out.

Anyways i need help / a guide to taking out the entire center console so i can get to the thing.
I have a 2000 gt. Anyone know a link??

Its been a long time since i did this but it isnt too hard

1st) remove bezel around shifter
now, i think there are 4 screws that hold the console to the dash. remove those.
2nd) take everything out of center console. i think there are 2 screws inside the compartment that you need to remove.
(I dont remember if you have to remove the radio bezel or not to remove the console. you will have to look at it when you get to this point. I want to say you do as the way you will lift the console out, if you do not remove it, they will hit and prevent you from getting it out. If you do have to remove it, be gental as it is fragile. I use a butter knife wrapped in electrical tape to wedge inbetween it and the dash to pry it off. you dont want to use a screw driver as it will scratch it(hence the tape))
Once this is done you should be able to lift the console off. since your ebrake handle broke, this should be fairly easy. its a pita with the hadle still there. you have to lift the handle as high as you can to get the console up over it. just take your time.

I may have missed something so if anyone see's something that needs to be added, please list it.

thanks guys yea I found it in my manual. Forgot i had that. Still im just gonna use like an extra big washer or something to hold the brake down. At least for now I dont know where to buy those pieces.

Do people buy new ebrakes in general for their mustangs? Like one thats easier to pull up?

Never heard of one being excessively hard to pull like your describing, mine just comes right up. Maybe your cable is rusted, spray some graphite or white lithium grease down the tube that the cable is running in. Check your rear brakes too, make sure nothing is binding up.

well the only reason to replace the handle is if it broke or you are buying the cobra leather wrapped handle.

Well the stiffness of the handle has nothing to do with the handle itself. It is due to your rear brakes/e-brake line.

Turned out fine. I plugged the whole with extra large washers, lockwashers and a 5/16 bolt. I also adjusted the cable and its much easier to pulll up now . ( you have to make sure you dont loosen it to much or the car will roll back like 1/2 a foot after you pull the brake).
