Default Cobra Vs GT Engine Block

What are the differences b/n the 03-04 cobra block and the GT block b/c all of these palces like MMR MPH Livernois say they use the cobra block. also I called a machine shop in the area and they told me that it would be $900 to bore, balence, fly cut the pistons and assemble the short block, that is with me supplying the parts

The 03-04 cobra's and the GT blocks are both iron, whearas if they are using an earlier cobra block it will be aluminum. The cobra engines are 4 bolt main I believe, where the GT is only a 2 bolt main. 99-00 GT blocks were windsor blocks and the 01-up GT's were Romeo blocks. There were slight differences between these but i'm not sure what. Also I have heard that the cobra blocks have a slightly different bolt pattern on the front cover but that everything will still bolt up with a good RTV bead. Not possitive on everything, just what I have learned from reading and talking to buddies.

If you put the 03 cobra bumper on, you dont need a grille delete because it doesnt come with the holes the gt bumper has. The grille delete covers the holes from the stock grille on the gt bumper.

so your saying if i just remove the honeycomb it will look bad because of the 4 holes at the bottom? I just really like the look of having nothing there but I dont have any money to buy the grill delete. And since my car is black I wasnt sure how visible the holes would be..

PS sorry for thread jack

No need for the grille delete with the 03 cobra bumper no holes but my factory bumper had holes and it was pretty noticeable b/c the holes are pretty big hopes this helps.... Thanks thats what i thought about the cobra block but couldnt find it anywhere also does anyone know what amount of power the gt block will hold.

I dont think the block is the weak point, pretty sure its the rods, then the pistons. Which i have heard they will handle anywhere from 380rwhp to 450rwhp. all depends on the specific engine and your tune. If you have all forged internals then I'm not sure what the next weakest point would be, not sure on how much just the block can handle
