It just depends on which 4.6 engine you're looking at. The 94-98 Gt's don't make that much power (I think between 215-230 depending on the year) The New Edges bumped it up a little. They make 260 (to the crank). I don't know man. I think the 5.0 engine has alot more potential than the 4.6 and you can get so many parts cheap as hell.

From what i have read on the forum the order of which engines are better i.e. fox bodies through new edges are...
1. 4.6 pi
2. 5.0 foxes, sn95's
3. 4.6 npi
I loved my 5.0 in my 94 mustang, it was a beast. My neighbor did a 4.6npi to 5.0 swap and it seems decent and the car has a couple mods to it. You could get a pi engine for a grand with low miles. I picked up mine for $1700 with bbk shorty headers, accufab 75mm t/b and plenum on it w/ > 50K on it. I figuered it was worth it w/ the exta's.
p.s. There is no such thing as a stupid ? only stupid people. lol

Like Soldier GT says, it depends on many factors. The 4.6's in all of the 99-present Mustangs are pretty darn sweet, as are the 96-98 Cobras. However, the 96-98 GT's weren't exactly the hottest things on the block, and the previous 5.0s were more powerful. There are far too many factors to make an absolute blanket statement, but I'm really digging the 4.6 these days. To each his own, I say!

The only factor it depends on is $.

Pushrod motors are:
Cheaper to build
Easier to build
Slightly lower in HP from the start

Mod motors are:
VERY expensive to mod/fix
Not as abundant in parts
A little bit quicker stock for stock

The 5.0 is a great motor. Stroke it to a 347 with some good heads and intake and cam and you will pretty much beat most of the GTs on the road lol.

It is easier and cheaper to get power out of the 5.0. But if reliability is a factor, then the 4.6 is the way to go.

+1.

I know 5.0s are easy to build, my buddy has one, and its pretty cheap. My car is going to get expensive to build later...

I first bought my Vert, but I have had an 85 GT hatch and an 88 LX coupe. The Fox body platform is EASY to work on.

I wish I would have bought the 5.0 LX that i looked at when I was looking for my first car... Probably wouldn't have the one I have now, but it would have been bad ***...

imo the 302 in stock trim is a dog. absolutely no power whatsoever, with a pitiful top end (sorry fox guys). the pi 4.6 is a decent step up in stock trim, and even when bolt ons are added to both the pi 2v 4.6 is still ahead. BUT the 5.0s have an advantage, a huge CHEAP aftermarket. a h/c 302 is a decent little setup, but a well put togethor 331 or 347 stroker can make very nice power, easily putting any n/a 2v 4.6 out of its misery power wise. so n/a a worked 5.0 is the better choice, but when FI is added either one is a great choice.

i guess it all depends on the direction of the build your trying to acquire that would really determine which would be better for you.
