Default Spring Install

Sooo...

If i rented a spring compressor from advance auto, would i just go in and compress my spring and then pull it out and vice versa to putting the other ones in? i know i'd probably have to disconnect the abs/brake lines and maybe the strut. too.

you dont need a spring compressor, just lower down the arm all the way and use something to pry it outa the pocket, and pry the other one in.

i see your in nc, too far from me tho...im in charlotte, other wise id help ya out, unless you wanna make the drive

our club has a meeting this thursday you could coem down for that and we could throw em on

The safest method is to use a spring compressor or chain to keep the spring from shooting out of the wheel well. Wether you use one or not, be sure to stand in front of the car (out of the spring's range just to be safe) as you slowly lower the jack. You don't have to disconnect the brake lines, just the calipers themselves. Use a wire clothes hanger to hang them out of the way. Don't allow them to dangle by the brake lines. Disconnect the strut from the spindle, its only two bolts. Loosen the tie-rod 's castle nut halfway, and then strike the top of the nut with a hammer to loosen the tie rod from the spindle. Finish unbolting the castle nut and remove the tie rod. Disconnect the sway bar and then you 're ready to lower the jack and remove the spring.

+1 flying springs are VERY dangerous, i use a spring compresser most of the time, all but once actually.

Don't need one. Just lower the a arm slowly, and you'll see when its all the way down. Just bang it out with a hammer. But make SURE it doesn't have pressure on it. Springs won't go flying. And to get the H&R's in it'll be a piece of cake because the springs are so much shorter than stock. You don't even have to disconnect the brake lines.

Take wheel off
Take caliper off
hang caliper up somewhere in the wheel well
unbolt sway bar(only unbolt one side at a time)
take out castle pin
Unbolt castle nut
hammer tie rod out
put jack under control arm and apply pressure
unbolt shock
lower a arm
bang out spring
reverse

Go look it up on AM. Its pretty easy. If you need more room to wiggle the spring out, just apply some pressure on the a arm toward the ground.
