Should I go cam?

if you plan to do port work down the road, i would go with stage 2 cams
and i would save up a little more and have the porting done while the engine is already apart for cams instead of taking it apart once
but like i said, easiest thing to do is to call CMS and talk to someone about a custom grind

Stock heads don't flow nearly enough to make use of stage II or stage II.5's, the car will fall FLAT on it's face around 4k RPMs

max power really is irrelevant. its all about power under the curve. ive seen guys with huge donkey dick cams making crazy power, but it doesnt kick in until 4500 rpms, and guys with smaller cams outrun em b/c the torque kicked in a lot earlier, and max power came on a lot earlier.

so lets pull this thread back up. Lets say I didnt want to do a PI swap on my car (96gt 5 speed) at this time. at some point i will switch to PI heads, and add Long tubes. But for now it will be OR x pipe, basanni cat back and a tune. How well would the stage 1 cams work in this situation on the non- PI heads? (i will be installing the PI intake)

You'll still gain 25rwhp. CMS all the way.
It will be on top of. Some people would disagree with me but I know two NPI cars in my club that picked up 20-29rwhp from just adding CMS cams. Besides the "Number", the feel & extra power band from the cams is what's really important. When a car has aftermarket cams like CMS, the pull and feeling is better than the actual Hp gain. They will "Pull" all the way up past 6k rpms. Even if there's is no peak Hp gains from a set of cams at all (Like SHM cams), it will pull harder and longer than a stock cammed car.
