In TX you'll have emissions to deal with I guess, consider that before buying an offroad (no cats) midpipe. Being low on cash as you say you are (I can relate), a lot of the less expensive mods might leave you a little disappointed in themselves. For the BEST bang for the buck, you're probably looking at: 4.10's, a tune, and subframe connectors. Many will probably advise you to save up for those items rather than spend $200 here and there on mods that won't have near the impact.

stay away from cai's...theyre usless. start with exhaust. catback, midpipe headers...etc etc after that save yourself the trouble of bolt on hell and start saving for a blower.

You must do a lot of city driving. I lost 2 mpg with 3.73 and I suspect the highway/interstate loss for 4.10s would be 3 mpg. I personally didn't care about the loss in gas mileage, but some people do.

OP, the first thing you need to do when you buy a used Mustang is find out what's already been done. Mine already had a Flowmaster cat-back exhaust, a custom gage overlay, and underdrive pulleys. It had a K&N sticker but the the cold air intake must have been taken off when they sold the car. The underdrive pulleys caused quite a problem when I had the supercharger installed.

Who knows. You might find some pleasant surprises when you inspect the car.

I vote, get a catback system first. The best way for people to know you are serious is a more serious exhaust. The stock system is weeaak!

After that I would argue gears or weld-in subframe connectors. Both make the car feel exponentially better when you drive and both will run in the 300-500 range, price-wise.

So, do you go to UT or just a fan?

I totally agree about the catback. Everytime I start the car, it brings a smile to my face. Lol - my wife had to borrow my car last week to go to work, and when I heard the car, I got out of bed to see what car outside sounded so awesome.

Though his initial post said free/cheap. I'd say the k&n drop in, and air silencer removal. I just ordered mine today (along with the mgw shifter).

Some good advice I got was to have a plan for your car. Where exactly do you want to go? All motor? S/c? Going to the strip a lot? The answer to these questions will steer you towards what mods to do.
