I say heat extractor, unless the gap is really noticeable.

The Cervini's 95 Cobra R "cowl" hood is also a heat extracting hood. The vents are up by the windshield. That's one of the reasons I bought it.

I sometimes get confused by other people's definition of "keeping out of boost." Driving down the interstate at nearly 3000 rpm my centrifical supercharger is building nearly 2.5 lbs of boost. Because the throttle body butterfly valve is mostly closed the vac/boost gage is showing around 14 inches of vacuum. I would say I'm keeping out of boost. But the supercharger is still generating boost (and heat), it just being bled off through the by-pass valve. Long-tube headers add addition heat to the engine compartment.
