Default 1/4 mile help

made a few passes at the track this weekend and was looking for some pointers on these cars. it was my first time there and turned a best time of 15.03 on a stock gt. have 75 shot nitrous, but opted to learn a little before spraying. my 60 ft time was 2.28. was wondering what is a good 60 foot time in a stocker. i am launching at about 2200 and it is sticking good. i tried a launch at 2500 and spun like crazy. i have 315's out back also and they were plenty hot. my questions are...what is a good rpm to launch at, what is a good shift point, i was shifting at 5,000 rpm and what should i be running at 60 ft. throwing 3.73s in next month and want to return to the track after break in and run the nitrous. i am looking to break mid 13's. shouldn't be a problem after all of that, do you guys think?

Launch rpm sounds good to me, from what i have heard from on here, 60ft is pretty bad, but your stock as well. shift should be at 5500 or around that. What were you trapping 90-95? most likely with that high of a time. With better shifting and launching you will be up there, or down I should say.

What is your elevation(where do you live)? Also, more importantly.. what did you trap?

With your 60' you should still be in the 14s, I think your elevation has something to do with it; that and driver mod.

Yeah, even with a 2.2 60ft. you should still pull in the 14's, but without knowing a little more info, it's hard to help here!

Being that you're stock, you should try shifting around 5600-5800 rpm for better results.

I ran 14.503 at 95.6 mph with a 2.29 60' in St. Louis, MO

I was thinking that was a little on the slow side.... but the humidity was 90% that day.

3.73's will pull the car overall quite a bit more. My only concern is you may actually increase your 60' time if you continue launching the same. You may have to ease it out of the hole a little more with the gears in order to get it to hook and go.

60 foot isnt as bad as people say, granted its not great, but with a 2.2 you can still get down the track fine because it usually means your probebly bogging or squeeling a bit, overall not where i would worry at the moment. For you shift points are whats killing your time, you see the red line on your tach? its like 5800? thats your shift point really most new cars have there stuff laid out well enough that red line is more of a the best performance is here line, and after this line your on barrowed time. although i constantly shift at 6k...meh. SO 5800 and dont be slow with the shifting and that time will come down alot. then work on the 60.

5000 is way too low, shift at atleast 5700 , i shift at like 6k prob

u shift into more hp that way and are generally in the best part of the powerband

Just slip the clutch at 1500rpm's and just powershift it without letting your foot off the gas at 5400-5500rpms and you will get down there. lol i find that when on the street and i do that, i test different rpms. If you shift lower than that, you will bog down a little bit more. if you shift higher than that, when not letting your foot off the gas, you will go deep into the red if you cant shift very well. So i say just shift at 5500rpm and you should be fine. You are past where you make peak power at anyways so whats the point to make it pull any further. Id rather put it deeper in the torque curve than the hp curve because our cars stock make more torque than power.

acctually its kinda the other way around, even though the torque is higher, these motors breath better(sadly) up top. And not to say your way wont work, but when i power shift at 6k i get the best times, ive tried moving the shift point around, just means slower. Altho power shifting over redline is not recomended for the faint of heart lol. or people who dont know how to take care of a car and recognize when it isnt doing well. 107k miles and counting...im sure my car hates me and loves me at the same time.

if you cant shift fast dont power shift. but my car shifts smother and feels better when i keep my foot down. you might have to short shift from 1rst to 2nd to keep traction but all other gears should be higher in rpm's, but cars are different.
