Ive had my 03 mustang gt for about 3 months and i love it but i want to give it a little more get up and go. Im short on money and knowledge about cars. Id like to start out slow and from what ive been reading its best to start with a cold air intake. First i guess is this true? And then what should be next and i guess what is there really? What the heck does a tuner do? Will i need one? Do you need a chip to go with a tuner? Pretty much endless questions here but ill start with that. Any help will be well appreciated!

GEARS will make a huge difference!! $150 for them a bearing kit, bout $75 and an install, shouldn't pay more than $250/$300, that will give you the most pep out of anything besides big money superchargers/turbos/nitrous which can safely be ran on stock internals if done correctly. Throttle bodys are very good, you will notice a difference, you'll rip through the rpms... still no where near the gear change difference. throttle body produces more air to you rmotor, hear an awesome whistle sound when you get on it, which works well with the cold air intake, which also helps it breathe and increases gas mileage. unlike the TB, Gears. you may have a opportunity to upgrade your plenum on those motors.. unsure i can't i have a 4v 96 cobra. aluminum driveshafts helps in weight vibration and also ripping through the rpms. exhaust will really open er up and make the ride sound like its wearing the pants in the driveway. more on the expensive side however. new plugs and wires can give it more response and a little pep. most everything else you'll probably have to pull the motor for. cams, heads, headers, forged flat top pistsons, crank etc. you car is endless. just get an idea, bounce it off some people here, and they will tell you what they have done and what they liked. you should get 4.10 gears, and soon. you'll love every second of it... except your MPG will go down a little. specially on the hwy. My signature has all my mods... 4.10's will be going in and done THIS SUNDAY!! can't wait. good luck with you car.

For an absolute beginner, such as yourself, a cold air intake or catback exhaust is a good start.

I wouldn't worry about a tune just yet. Gears are great as well, but keep it simple for now.

You don't want to get confused in the beginning.

hey its not a problem, we've all been there once before, just like anything, build your way up. just becareful, you'll be consumed before you know it. i am, but i love it. enjoy the car and the knowledge, don't be afraid to do research and put your own wrench work, makes it that much more worth it, and saves you money in the process.

i pm'd you on alot of the info about gears... the website i ordered mine off were www.americanmuscle.com.. i got the ford racing gears in 4.10's, i have 3.73s coming out that were the motive gear brand.. never one problem with them. also a good website you can look at is www.rpmoutlet.com they display some of the gains you will get after adding the mod's.

also if you just google what your looking for... for example 4.10 gears for an 8.8 inch differential.. which is the size of my differential it will come up with a list of different things, research about them pictures and places to buy them

a good thing would be to type in like 2003 mustang gt specs. and get more information about your car and what it comes stock with. hp/torque, weight, size of your tires.. which will help when you get the gears for traction. the type of transmission and motor you have etc.
