Lightbulb 1999-04 v6 to 4.6 swap

hello everyone,
im very new to this site, i have been strolling the site for a while now bit i have decided to join because i am getting ready to purchase a v6 mustang from my gf's cousin. now her husband has done up the exterior very nicely just how i would want it too look like, however i am not really digging the 3.8 motor at all now my question to everyone here is can anyone provide me with how hard it would be to swap in the 4.6 motor? i know the shocks have to be changed and i think her husband actually switched to the 8.8 but if somebody here could provide me with what all needs to be done that would be greatly appreciated

thanks guys

Well, it obviously has much to do with how well you are equipped for the job, and how mechanically inclined you are.
Do you have a shop are?
Jack stands?
Impact/Hand tools
Engine Lift?

All the necessary equipment would be a definite place to start. Next I would consider your budget. If you're going to be having this swap done by a shop/somene else, would the cash be available after parts to pay for the labour? Next, do you have a donor Engine or is this just a 'can I do it' question?
You'll need a fair amount of parts for the conversion, including the wiring Harness, PCM etc.
If all of these things are ready and available, the swap is nothing a handfull of hours and a couple of cases of beer couldn't fix. Honestly, I can't give you a complete list off of the top of my head, but I'm sure Google could help you there.
Good luck

This kind of thread has been answered many many times in the V6 section, the consensus answer is that it is almost never really worth it......

to a 4.6 its not worth it, PI GTs can be found cheap

your other option is spend 3k for a blower on the 6er and you can get ~320hp/ft lbs out of it

not worth the hassle. If your going to swap a motor into the car at least make it something worth your time.

my buddy just did this in one day.... you need the gt drivetrain, radiator, gauge cluster, gt pedal assembly (yes its different than v6)...wiring harness....ecu.... you will need to switch lock cylinders so your key works with the new antitheft.... you basically need a donor car to do this practically

find a gt that is destroyed in the rear and use it was a donor...or just buy a gt/cobra

+1 you can find a GT in great shape and low miles for under 10k all day long.
