Default Working on the car

So my wife is out of town for the next few weeks and I am bored so I decided to finally get up off my duff and do some work to the car. I spent 2 hours last night vacuuming the crap out of the interior and shampooing the carpets. Looks 10X better. I also installed new Silverstar Ultra headlights (PITA).

On the agenda today is to change spark plugs with NGK TR55GP. What is the correct gap for a 96 GT? Guy at Autozone told me .054. Also I am going to be changing out the tranny fluid. I bought Mobil 1 Synthetic ATF Multi-Vehicle formula. Is this going to be okay? They didn't have any RP or else I would have got that. Then I am finally getting around to painting my brake calipers red. I cant wait to get that done and see it. Last but not least finish up the full dress up on the interior.

I will post up pics of the calipers when I get done.

Do you have a haynes manual? I think that gap is right. And the tranny fluid i want to say should be mercon 3, but could be wrong about that.

Yeh I looked in my haynes manual and it is anywhere between .052 and .056. Looks like it will wait until tomorrow. I need a longer extension to get the plugs and a different lug socket for the wheels to come off. So since I was mad I cleaned the rest of the interior and got it looking real good. Even vacuumed the trunk.

It always feels good to look at your nice clean car, its even better to sit in a clean car. This makes me want to clean that black thing in my sig.

+1 to feeling good. I just want to hop in and drive it and see how the new headlights are. I am not looking forward to changing out the plugs tomorrow. But I am doing it no matter what and hopefully the calipers if I can get the right lug socket.

I am interested in painting my calipers also. Is there a special type of paint you have to get?

They have a special caliper paint. Higher temp rating up to 500*.

The paint I have is Dupli-Color Caliper Paint.

This exactly what I have. Just make sure you clean the calipers and mask off the things you don't want painted.

I never had luck with the Dupli-Color. It seemed to always flake off from not being on very long. I tried the G2 and I will never use anything else.

I have a can of clear coat to hopefully keep it looking fresh and not flake off. We will see how it goes though. Always seems like I am one tool short for everything. Guess that's how it goes.

When changing the plugs make sure you torque them down to the proper torque specs so you don't blow out a spark plug
