Default Engine Swap Advice

I have a 99 GT and I'm looking for more power. I have heard things about swapping in a 03-04 Cobra engine, a 5.4L from a Ford truck, stroker engines, and many more...and I'm honestly confused. I'm not the richest guy in the world lol so I'm looking for the most cost effective and easiest swap I can do while still a solid HP gain over the base rating over the 260 that my GT has. Any and all advice is much appreciated.

honestly man, i went through the same dilemma u are! after tons of questions and checking around every where, the easiest and cheapest way is to build yours up. or add a s/c , turbo set up. but then again there's the nitrous way out, which aint to bad considering u dont cheap out and install it right. but its really all up to u and your funds! im goin w/a turbo set up in mine. keep us posted which way you decide to go with! there's alot of wise people on here that im sure will lead ya down tha right path!

The easiest and cheapest way to add HP is Nitrous. If you don't want that then add a s/c or turbo. I don't think a new engine will get you want you want. Especially for how much it will cost.

The Nos route is not one I want to go, just because of issues and legal reasons and all that crap. The reason I have been considering this is because I heard people have swapped in used engines for anywhere between $2,000 and $4,000 and the superchargers I have seen are around $5,000 plus installation costs.

If you really want to do a swap, go to car-part.com and search for engines near you from whatever vehicle you want. A cobra engine can easily get to 5k depending on mileage, not to mention install costs. I honestly would do a n2o setup since it will cost less than 1k generally. But it is up to you.

The cops around here are so bored, they love bugging me. Any other opinions? Would building my engine or swapping in, for example, a 5.4 from a 99 F250 be easier, cheaper, or better?

What do you want out of your car??? Are you drag racing or do you want a fun street car??? Are you looking for max HP and are you willing to build your engine up for over 450hp???

How mechanically inclined are you and what tools do you have/access to???

All these questions have to be answered before we can really help you.

On one hande, the Termie engine will have to most potential over a 5.4 or 2v engine. You are swapping engines/computers/etc. You can make your 2v pretty stout but, you will have to do FI/nitrous and build your engine at some point. It is all up to you.

well, what are you wanting out of your car? hp/performance wise? honestly, i spent months researching this same dilemma. im gonna go w/the hellion turbo kit. comlete system including k-member front end set up for 5k. in tha meantime building a forged internal 2v to swap in when my stock plays out. and w/the forged internals i can up the boost. but it all depends on you, and what ur lookin for. but i havent found a descent 4v for under bout 4-5k.

if your going to swap with a modular, do a 5.4. The 4.6 stroker is a waste. A 5.4 stroker is bad idea. If your looking for a race car... get yourself an LS (chevy) motor.

I'm looking for a fun street car that will be my daily driver, with the occasional visit down to my local drag strip for some fun. Max HP is the goal, but unfortunately at this point money is a concern and it would take me quite a while to save $4k+ which is why I'm thinking that perhaps building my engine might be the best/most realistic option for me at this time. If I do go that route what kind of power would I be looking at with upgrades such as comp cams, heads, procharger/supercharger, and the other basic bolt-ons?
