Magnaflows...

Keep in mind that the X-pipe will always be a bit sharp sounding, as compared to an H-pipe, with the X-pipe favouring the high-end a bit and the H giving the low end a bit of a boost.

H-pipe = Musclecar, X=pipe = NASCAR ...

I always hear people say that an o/r x is more raspy/poppy than a o/r h (it does make sense with a chambered muffler) but i actually find the opposite to be true when going with a straight through muffler.

Unless you go with something like SLP 1's or race bullets, i think most other straight throughs will work pretty well.

On our engines the decision rests on whether you want usable power, or "the sound". H-pipes with chambered mufflers will have the musclecar sound, but less power after the power peak (5200 rpm +).

With OHV engines power after 5500 rpm drops off rapidly due to valve float, however on the OHC engines valve action control is much improved and rotating assembly strength becomes the limiting factor. The X-pipe kicks in at higher revs and improves breathing so the power curve holds up better at higher revs--this is not a kick-in-the-butt improvement, but it's noticeable and real nonetheless.

My car, with the o/r H-pipe that came on it, would run up to the rev-limiter in 1st and 2nd, but you had to keep you foot in it--with the UPR catted X-pipe, and if you don't pay attention, it's easy to bump the limiter in 1st, and even in 2nd. Much flatter power curve right up to the limiter.
