Safe RPM's on Highway

Yep yep, i know it's totally different because they are 4 cylinders, but many of them rev high on highway and they can last very a long time.

Hi forum.
Kinda new to the 4.6 ltr.
My question is I do alot of highway driving to work.
My Stang is a 99 stock motor beside exhaust and CAI.
My Stang has 4:10 gears and on the highway I usely travel at 2500 rpms which is about 68-69 mph ( feel like im going slow )
But my main question is the 281 ci (4.6) sounds like its going to blow up around 3000-3500 rpm ( not use to such a small cube, ex chevy guy and 350's dont sound like that)
Is it safe on a stock motor to drive at 3000 rpm on a 50+ mile trip on highway?
BTW I love the 4:10s and dont want to change them because of highway driving( just too fun)

Do you have an auto because my 5 speed with 4.10s at 3,000 is 86 mph. Running consistly at 3500 rpms is high to me and not ideal conditions for motor.
Maybe your speedo needs to be recalibrated? Even with an auto at 3,000 rpms assuming stock wheels should be 74 mph and 3500 is 86.

glad i found this thread. i have an automatic and was just wondering the same thing today. i was on the highway doing about 70mph at 2,500 rpm's with the overdrive off. is it safe to run on the highway at 70,80,90mph with the overdrive off? boy this thing wants to run when cruising at 90mph and ya give it a little more gas, just squats and pulls out! love it!

Oh just got her, testing her out a bit. I feel its more responsive with it off but i was curious if this was safe. I've just tried it like 2 times. I've got this 3 mile stretch with a river on one side and a cliff on the other clicked the od off got it up to 90mph "i know not that fast", but then i hit the pedal a little more and i liked it. It wanted to move out and sounded pretty nice also!

I ride alot of highways in my auto with stock gears. I can tell you exactly why to leave it off at highway speeds....if you ever need to gun it or get challenged your ****ed unless you just wanna drop right down to 3rd while going 80+. The O/D is so sluggish its not funny, keep it in 3rd and tap that gas and she takes off just like your cruising 20 MPH. I got my *** absolutely handed to me by a GTO cuz I was stuck in O/D. Decided to drop it down to 3rd way too late(he already had 3 lengths on me) while going 105-110 and I smelled a bit of a burning smell after slowing down.
