what would cause a burnt valve? is it worth the $100 and the risk?

If you need new internals it would be an expensive repair. You looking for a 5.4 or it does not matter. Reason I ask is that I have a stock 4.6 short block 2004 with only 23,000 miles on it. You will need heads and timing chains and you would be good to go.

PM me if you are interested.

im looking to do a 5.4 swap. i was planning on gettin new internals anyway but i dont want to get the engine and find out the block got cracked or something. whats the worst that could be wrong with the engine after a burnt valve? i was planning on a .02 over bore anyway... maybe just some machining to square everything up?

should be ok. i've seen several 5.4's come in with a cylinder misfire, low comression on one cylinder. almost always turns out to be a burned valve. but since u have to remove the engine to get the heads off, most customers will replace with a used engine. (probably what this guy did) they are also bad for stripping out the spark plug holes. (not enough material at the spark plug seat)
hell u can sell it for more than $100 in scrap metal though.

Are you looking for forge it? If so, you are better off just buying a built 5.4 short block then paying for machining and blue printing motor.

99' 5.4 should have a forged crank! Later years, Ford used cast and forged....Lightnings of course have forged cranks. Regular F150, Exped, etc. could have got either one.

im pretty sure its not forged, its from a 99 expedition but that would be nice.

so it looks like im gonna buy it if no one says there could be major damage to the block...
