Default TR3650 rebuild kit/upgrade

My tranny has a problem where if I disengage the clutch and shift from neutral to reverse, it grinds, but if I shift into a forward gear first, then shift to reverse, it usually (but not always) goes right in.

Over the winter, I'd like to have the tranny torn apart and rebuilt. While it's out of the car, I figure now would be the best time to do whatever I can to strengthen it and fix whatever inherent flaws are present.

Are there any kits made specifically for this purpose? I wouldn't mind a T56 or a TKO600, but I don't want to spend that much, and even when I'm done with the power mods on my car, I don't plan on making more than 330rwhp so other transmissions would probably be overkill anyways.

All my manual transmissions have had this same issue and was told it was due to lack of synchros in reverse. I think my new T-56 does the same thing, but am so used to going 1st prior to R, I can't recall for sure.

If this is the ONLY issue you have with it, leave it alone.

I would leave it alone, but I can't always get it into reverse even if I first go to a forward gear. It just locks it out. My other Mach 1 never had this problem.

my 89 5liter would always grind into reverse if you didnt go into a forward gear first. my 2002 locks you out of reverse unless you go into a forward gear also. if my gf is driving sometimes she has to turn off the car to put it in reverse then start it bcuz she cant get it into reverse.

I sometimes have a somewhat similar issue where I have to apply just a bit of forward "load" on trans to get into anything other than 1st~2nd. Happens occasionally and figure it is just a synchro issue and have not worried about it so far, just an odd issue.

Well, after playing around with it for awhile, I found that if I'm in neutral, press in the clutch, and wait a couple seconds, I can shift into reverse without grinding. However, if I try shifting to reverse immediately after pressing the clutch pedal, I get a grind.

When the motor is running and the clutch is out, the trans main shaft is rotating. If you dis-engage the clutch the shaft will stop spinning in that couple seconds and allow you to find reverse w/o grinding.

This is due to the lack of synchro's, as I understand.... normal.
