Default Installed My Focus Pump---Problem

I just installed my Focus pump in my N/A 2000 GT. There aren't any leaks and everything is bolted and connected back the way it was. I put the strainer on that came with the pump and when I put the assembly back in the hat, the strainer sits perpendicular to the way the stock strainer sat. I'm not sure if that causes a problem but the real issue is when I'm getting into the gas and shifting. It feels like it falls flat on its face for a split second---bad enough to jerk me forward. It usually does it from 2-3 and 3-4.
I have read on other sites that the PPRV causes a lot of problems but I think that is mostly for blown applications. Their symptoms are identical to mine though.
I really don't want to yank the tank out again because I have a full tank of gas and I replaced the rubber filler neck seal and I don't want to risk tearing it (unless there is a low possibility of ripping a new seal)

I don't recall the car doing this when I had the stock GT pump but I could be wrong.

I replaced the stock pump because I thought I was having a fuel issue and I already had the Focus pump so I figured "why not"

Anybody know of a cure?
