Default COBRA ENGINE?

Ive been doing a little homework about swaping my 4.6 engine for a cobra one. I looked at some of the history on this forums of people that have done it "BUT" they dont tell what they had to do, to get it there. SO has anybody done this? Is there a website that could tell me or a bolt-on kit for this app.?
Or is it just not worth the money and time? By the way I have a 96 GT, W/manual if it helps.

Well I would guess it depends on what your goals are and how much you can get a Cobra motor and all the other goodies to go with it for.

Well I was looking to find a used block with heads or a rebuilt one. I found a 96 cobra block online for 3500 bucks but its just a block with heads. I figure its bolt on to the tranny. But after that I have no idea. The obivious I can figure out, its the other stuff that I need to know to make it run and work right.

the easiest way to do the swap is to buy a complete Cobra engine with harness and ecm. Put engine in plug everythin in and go have fun

This is for anybody that wants to do a swap for the 99-01 4.6 GT engine to the cobra. I just talked to a guy that really did the swap and made it work. He sent me a list of parts that he had to get for the swap and I will share them with the people that want to do it. Now this list is what he had.

The motor was rebuilt,99 cobra block and heads w/valve covers, had to buy alt, fuel rails,24 lbs inj, upper and lower intake, heater rail, oil pan with pump, power stearing pump bracket, belt tensioner, balancer, fly wheel and clutch and headers. He said that the cobra pump has a higher flow rate but a aftermarket bbk pump is good enough every thing else bolted up and fit exact.

Now the elect. side, he went to a junk yard and got a wiring harness for 100 bucks and it came with a ECU. Saying the wiring harness was a rats nest but it took about a day to finish. Adding to that, ford has a pricee but complete wireing harness and he would go that way next time. He also add that the tunner that he had for the gt also did the cobra too and he just used that. The gauge cluster being a little off but engine ran great and it could be driven. This is all there that he had, Im sorry, I dont have any pictures to back this up but he said that he was going to email me some pic.

One last thing- the gauge cluster is off alittle so if you get a cobra cluster of the year to the wiring harness you used, everything should work..

PPS: if you have a 96-98 gt uses the 96-98 cobra wiring harness/99-01 gt uses the 99-01 cobra one/02-04 gt uses the 02-04 harness/ and so on
