hey guys a buddy of mine found this place and bought from them but hasn't installed them but they are packaged nice and seem to be solid product.

http://buyhidkits.com/index.html

they have both our 9007 kits and 899 kits for foglights

with an extra $15 you get a lifetime warrenty.

wondering if anyone has bought from them with good or bad experiance.

Hey i have stock headlights, what do i need exactly to do a HID setup?

are the HIDs just new bulbs that screw in and work instantly or do you have to get a whole new housing? and isnt there a little box thing(balast?) what does that do and do i need it for HIDS to work?

well the HID's (High Intensity Discharge) are new bulbs and ballasts and plug into your stock harness. they are MUCH brighter(depending on what Kelvin rating you get) Kelvins are the unit for light brightness but the higher the number does not nessesarily mean the brightest.

they can range from 4300K, 5000K, 6000K, 10000K 12000K. the 4300K are a yellowish tint to them and the 12000K are pretty much purple. if you want functional HID's go with a 5000 or 6000 as they will be the whitest/a hint of blue. the 8000 and 10000 get noticeble blue tint that is actually worse at night and the 12000 i would assume are even worse.

so for functionality go with 5000 or 6000. keep in mine most states they are illegal to place in factory halogen housings(you have halogen bulbs now stock)
reson for this is that a halogen housing is made for halogen bulb and direct the light accordingly, a HID bulb in a halogen housing does not control the light as direct as it should (hence people on here saying they blind people at night)

BUT if you drive a lot of backroads with no roadlights then i would highly recommend getting these....hell i dont and im still going to get them lol

the one thing i have not found a big diff in is some kits go for $200 and some for $60 like from that site i originally posted. i bought a $75 kit from ebay for my Mark 8 almost a year ago and have no problems.

anyone correct me if im wrong with anything

but i dont see why these wont be any good, almost all the ones on ebay are Japanese anyways right? i think they put the "Japansese Engineering" as a good thing lol thinking that since they use them a lot in the rice buckets they drive around in that they should be good HID's?

No, most are made in China. In fact, companies claiming Japanese Engineering, or Made in Japan are only doing so to dupe unsuspecting customers. All the cheapest of the cheap generics do it, they just plain and simple make up fabrications, mis-represent specifications, basically anything the can to make people think they are of high quality or better than the other generic junk doing the same thing.

Yes, there are differences in HID, not just from the cheap to the expensive, but even among those in the same price ranges. Most of them are void of important safety and longevity features, even those that claim to have them:
- instant hot re-strike (most kits do not have this)
- overheat shutdown (some do, some don't)
- improper power supply shutdown and lock out (so far only we build this)
- proper wattage bulbs, in 50w/55w kits (so far only us and one Ebay vendor)
- most ballasts are not even sophisticated enough to properly monitor and attenuate for individual component differences, efficiency in thermal operation, etc.

well not to knock your company, but what can you offer that would make me want to buy from you? both offer a lifetime warrenty, so way i see it is even IF they are making up specs and whatnot but are a legit decent kit, i could get both the foglights and headlights for about $150 shipped.

granted im no expert on HID kits and maybe im missing something, but $75 from them vs $185 from you...i can't see how to justify the price differance.

again im not attacking you, just inquiring as i dont know everything about the inner workings of a kit(something i should study up on)

all the things you listed as specs you offer in your kits don't make much sense and how important they are in terms of a kit.

I have never heard one bad complaint regarding retrosolutions. And the dude obviously cares about his customers if he took the liberty to make a screen name on our beloved forum to chat with us and answer our every waking questions about HID's.

I don't know about you, but I would rather pay a couple bucks more to get a much higher quality kit. Oh, and good luck trying to talk to a Chinese person when your kit takes a crap on you half a year into it.

lol im not bashing him, im simply trying to figure out what exactly makes them THAT much better to justify the price thats all.

and im sure there are some people who bought from that website that have not had any complaints...

and its not just a couple bucks more. i can get a headlight AND foglight HID's for $30 less than i would spend to get just the headlights from him.
