posi slipping?
I think my posi slipping.. I was just driving in a dusting of snow and noticed on turns and like 180 only the passenger tire is rele sinning.. But in straight line both spin. I no limited slip does that but it seems more than usual.. What can cause that?.. Low fluid? Blown rear? Any ideas?
On turns, the wheels have to turn at different speeds, this means the LSD clutch packs are differently loaded because of the planetary gearing nature of the differential (they are loaded by the torque they are transmitting to the wheels). This makes it behave like a conventional differential, driveshaft torque does the rest.
It therefore takes a lot of input power (to the pinion) to lock up the differently loaded clutches--on snow this would be exaggerated.
When traveling in a straight line the packs are similarly loaded and it takes less input torque to lock 'em up...

Yup, you wil notice in on gravel/slippery roads etc.
A clutch pack type LSD is intended to lock up the wheels when going straight or nearly straight.
When turning they have to rotate at different speeds or you would not be able to turn the car--believe me, years ago I drove 15 miles in a Fiat 124 Spider with a locked up differential, it's something that would produce arms like Popeye's if you had to go much further....
