Default 2000-2004 question

im planning on getting a 2000 to 2004 mustang, doesnt really matter to me what year it is.

im wondering if the 4.6 liter is the v8....(sorry, im really new to cars in general)

my plan is to buy a good lookin mustang, save up for a car thats really good on gas, then slowly deck my mustang out to the fullest, and just drive my beater when im working on my mustang.

now i want a kinda fast gt just so i can have fun in my car until i get my beater, but the end result im hoping for is to pop a cobra engine in my GT and have it haul a**, along with the best suspension transmission ect. would it be possible to plop a cobra engine in a GT? and still have room for a turbo?

yes , that is a v8 but the diff is single overhead cam or dual overhead , single has 2 valve and 3 valve heads, dual has 4 valve heads. i have a 99 2 valve 4.6 with a supercharger that will push the limits of my 2 valve. a three valve engine you can add things like a supercharger and it would be alot more safe for the engine because the three valves have forged internal parts that can take the added hp. but yes if you want a v8 you are on the right track!

I'll keep it short then--the 3 valve/cylinder engines in the '05+ GTs are SOHC...

Just an opinion, but shoot for an '01-up. Mostly just stylistic differences, like the scoops on the outside & different spoiler. Inside is mostly the same as well, but the center console is a little nicer (different cupholders than 99/00), and the center stack is sized for a double-din size stereo. Mechanically, the only major difference I'm aware of is that '01+ have only 4 catalytic converters whereas 99/00 had 6 of them (although all years, 99-04, are rated at the same 260 horsepower; I guess Ford figured out a way to make four cats just as restrictive as six). So anyway, aside from those differences and a few others that are of little or no consequence, they're pretty much all the same car. Happy hunting!

I have not nailed down exactly when, however at some point between the late 2002 MY production (maybe earlier) and early 2003 MY Ford switched to 21lb/h (pink) injectors--I suspect because it became inescapably obvious that the 19lb/h (orange) injectors were going lean at higher loads, due to the improved breathing of the PI intake and heads.

This was making the NOx numbers too high and costing them money in EPA fines, it also improved mid-range WOT power but had only a minor effect on peak output and was not publicized.

So, I'd look for the pink injectors...

Wow, I've already learned more from this thread than the last 100 I read together. I can't believe I never knew the 3v's came with forged internals. Also, I always wondered why jrherald420's (2002) injectors were pink. I just always assumed the guy before him upgraded?
