Default Gears?

Just bought a 04 gt, 1 of the biggest mods im probably gunna do is gears so i wanna get it right the 1st time. Never did them on my 5.0. 3:73, 3:90, or 4:10s what would my rpms be at each 1 approximately on the highway? with stock im at 2000 rpm at 80 mph and i drive on the highway every day for work so to high a rpm will become a problem

all info would be appreciated

I won't get into what ratio, however my How Fast Can I Go in Each Gear calculator will let you figure out the numbers...

That said and FWIW, after careful consideration and driving patterns close to what you describe, I went with 3.73s and have no regrets...

I'm at 2500 @ 80 with my 3.90's.

Also, i had no noticable decrease in gas mileage, just in case you were wondering.

A hair under 2500 RPM in 5th at 70mph with my 4.30s. I also still get 20-22 mpg with them doing a mix of city and highway driving.

3.73 will make you tach 14% more rpms (3.73/3.27=1.141). 4.10s will make you tach 25% more (4.10/3.27=1.254).

I have 3.73's on my 2000 GT and I rapped out about 2250 doing 80 on the way back from Colorado to Omaha, NE last summer. I got 26MPG on the way out and 27MPG on the way home. I've never had any more aggressive gear on any of the 3 new edge cars I've owned, but have really liked the feel of the 3.73's.

I have 4.10 gears, but I don't really care about my gas mileage and I don't mind the higher RPMs. I try to stay away from the highway to begin with, the speed limit where I live on I-81 is only 55 though so even if I have to get on the highway, it doesn't effect me. My 4.10s give me about 2500 RPM at 75 MPH. I have done some long drives on the PA turnpike doing 75ish. I have not noticed a measurable decrease in gas mileage due to the gears themselves.
