Default Antenna Issues

Hey, Im a noob to the Mustang. Just bought one from a friend. It had the 14" antenna on it with the 6 disc changer. The radio gets very bad reception. So I put a 31" antenna on the car and a little improvement. I still cant get very good reception. Is this common with this car? Not to mention, the cd play skips every now and again.

I'm right next to NYC and i get sh*tty *** reception with the stocker... I can only imagine that a shorter antenna would make it worse. Our cars suck

My shorty antenna works just fine. 14" and i still get enough reception to make me happy. But i listen to cd's and my iPod most of the time anyways. the actual sound that comes through the radio stations really sucks compared to cd's anyways.

On my '03 I have a 9" antenna and the Mach 460 system--40 miles away from a 10kW PBS station in Jacksonville I get great reception on that, and all the "big boy" commercial stations--I get the Daytona (50 miles south) stations quite well also...

What is the 6-disc in-dash cd player called? Could this be the problem. The cd player sucks anyway. Im probably going to replace it anyway, but Im just trying to check if a new (possibly aftermarket) radio will fix the issue.

My radio was better with the stock 6 disc changer than my aftermarket one. But, like Teej, i also just listen to my ipod..

i have an aftermarket pioneer deck and the stock antenna and my reception still sucks even though im like twenty miles from all of my favorite radio stations. i think it is our antennas. or perhaps they have a tendency to come loose from our stereo decks. i know mine pops out of my stereo sometimes. but it is quite noticable when it does happen

I've got the 14" shorty on mine and get pretty close to the same reception I had with the stocker. I only live about 15 miles from the most of the stations I listen to, but sometimes travel 80-100 miles out and still pick them up about as well as I did with the fishing pole on my hood.

My stock Mach 460 CD player does skip sometimes though..I think it's just a flaw with the in dash 6 disc though.

The day I got my old 01 GT a few years ago, I ran over a speed bump going too fast and the 6-disc in it just gave up completely. Had to install an aftermarket HU the same week.
