ppl have me second guessing: future power + rear end?
Ok so as some of you know (or dont know) I have a vortech v-1 t-trim sitting in my room waiting to go on the car as soon as the weather warms up. Anyways, I was talking to this guy who drags his (02?) GT, that has had it Build, s/C'ed forged, etc. etc etc. New tranny, everything.
Anyways, he says that once I put about even 400 to the wheels that I am going to be pusing my tranny (and rear end) to almost breaking points, if I manage to hook up the car (if say I was drag racin, or going from a dig on the street)
How true is that statement? I want to take my car to the track once the s/C is on (and so I can at least have some kind of numbers for people to look at) but I dont want to do it if there is a decent chance the cars gonna crap out.
How does one reinforce their rear-end (or tranny for that matter) to be able to withstand the force of hooking with 400 rwhp? (is it even possible with the stock parts? Im not trying to really rebuild the entire car just yet, lol)
Thanks for your input.

It really just depends. Take 2 stangs pushin the same power (both with stock rear ends) and 1 breaks the first time out, and the other lasts for years.
In my case, i'm still with the stock rear end and clutch. My mods and power are in my sig. I've had the nitrous for 2 years now, and even with all that torque i'm still doing fine.

One, youre going to need 31 spline axles and differential to dead hook with that much power if your launching at the strip with d/r's or slicks. The stock transmission is only capable of really holding 360fwtq and our cars come stock with 302fwtq anyways. So when youre pushing that much at the tires, youre going to have over 400fwtq of stress on that tranny. Our stock trannies SUCK BAWLS!!! They are probably the worst tranny used in the stangs in my opinion. You cant really do anything for it to hold together better other than change the input shaft but then that means new clutch too and it wont help it much, considering the internals of the t3650 trannies are terrible. But with that said, my buddy has been launching on the spray with his stock tranny and built rear with 460rwtq and his stock tranny is holding up ok...more noise every time he launches it but it still works. For me, i'd rather upgrade first and then not have to worry about it breaking. But a lot of people dont agree with that...like my friend. He blew his rear out on a launch on the spray...first time of the season with the spray on m/t drag radials.

i put my money into a built rear before a s/c...was convinced by many experienced people on here that "what is the point of having the power if you cant put it to the ground"... i did a 31 spline cobra posi with carbon fiber clutches, moser 31 spline axles, 3.73 gears, and some MT DR's..pretty much bullet proof...if i were u id be concerned about my rear if planning to use sticky tires..very concerned...unless u like to gamble and take ur chances lol
