Default 3rd Gear grind when cold?

My mustang only grinds the first time i put it into 3erd gear. For example it only grinds after the car has been siting all night and is cold. So after the first time i put the car into 3erd gear and it grinds its fine the rest of the time. Is it grinding because the fluid is cold? or is this a problem that is in its early stages?

also does anyone know what PO 455 and po 457 codes are? I think its gas cap.

Thanks

I have the same problem, but with 4th and 5th. I find that it helps to run through each gear before moving and to hold it neutral for a second longer than usual on the cold shift.

Mine does it too, and I have a 07. Its normal, when its cold oil is thicker and effects synchros. Only happens the first time I put it in third too. If you put it in neutral for slight longer before going into gear I find that it doesnt grind.

I didn't think that would work. The transmission wouldn't be getting any heat since it's not being used.

Yeah, that is exactly how mine is. One grind and it's fine. Just don't try to speed shift it when it's cold.

i should rephrase my statement. I was trying to say how when then trans is cold, the fluid thickens up, like volcomchester said. As in dont beat on it when its cold, wait til everything is warmed up.
