Default 17s vs 18" bullitts

I bought my car 3 years ago from a friend and it came with 18 x 10.5 bullits in the back and 18 x 10 in the front. The rear is not bad, but the front is too wide. I was thinking of buying a 17 x 8 for the front and stick to the 18 x 10.5 on the back. But now I'm debating if i should go 17s all around. Can someone please help me out. Can someone pretty much tell me if there will be a "significant" difference in acceleration from a 18 to a 17. I know the 18s are heavier and have more rotating mass. Will it be worth it or not? My car is a fat turd as is (auto/vert/18s)

I've found that it does make a little difference. When comparing my stock 17x8 wheel/tire together (44lbs) to my aftermarket 17x10.5 rear (56lbs) there was a slight difference when racing my buddy from a roll. With the stockers, i'd pull him ever so slightly, and with the heavier tire/rim combo, we are dead even. We did a few runs both ways to confirm the results.

So, i think there will be a slight difference between a 17 and 18 inch rim, assuming they're at least the same width.

So then it will be worth it. Imma go with 17 x 8 in the front and 17 x 10.5 in the back. Even if it only makes it a car length faster, that is good enough for me. Plus, the chrome on my rims is faded. Would a 315/35/17 tire fit in the back with no issues? I've never put anything bigger than a 295 in the back.

I'm running 17x8 bullitts on the front, and 17x10.5 on the rear with 315's, and have no issues.

BTW, i see you have the Comp 262 cams. How do you like them? I'm about to do cams myself.

Ok thanks. I love the camrs. They make great low to mid range tq and I picked up 24rwhp. But you should get the right cam for your setup. ARe you getting heads in the future? These cams are good as a stock replacement. If I can do it all over, I would have gone with the xe270 or even better, a stage 2 cam from Hitech or cushmannmotorsports.com (i've seen people make 300rwhp with either of these cams with the stock heads!).

Consider the understeer issues created by the differential between the 8" & 10.5" wheels. The SN95 is already prone to this anyway, so would expect to have some more.

I would recommend a 9" wheel and stick with the same diameter as the rears.

Jazzer

PS... How are those 10"s working up front in reguards to rubbing? Until this point, I am the only one of which I was aware running a 10" up front.

I never though of that. Yeah I don't want anymore understeer so then I'll go with the 9" up front. The rubbing is horrible. My car turns very wide and is always rubbing! I need to get rid of it asap.

I've done countless hours of research on cams for my setup, and decided on Modular Head Shop's stage 2 Bullet Cams. It's a long story how i came to that conclusion, but it led me to those cams nonetheless. I won't be doing heads anytime soon, so that's another reason why i chose them. I've always heard good things about the 262's though.

You can't go wrong with those cams. What is their price for a set of cams?

$580 for the cams. They also sell matched cam gears that have been set to 0 degrees, so there's no need for degreeing. Which for me, is definantly worth it.
