Default engine mods

My '00 GT is over due for some engine mods, I'm looking into upgrading the T/B through the headers. Including heads, cams, intake manifold, and some internals if' their not looking too bad off. Any thoughts about brands or how I should go about this

Check out Modular Head Shop if you're looking to do a good HCI setup. They have some really good prices too.

What's your budget? Have you just considered doing a blower?

call me crazy, but I'm challenging myself to go N/A on this one. I've budgeted about $5000 for parts. I'm an aircraft mechanic and my help is a auto mechanic so I'm not worried about labor. I'm more confused on the type of tuner would work out better.

Well you are definitely crazy if you are going to dump 5K into an n/a motor netting 300 rwhp when you can get 400 rwhp for less money. I would consider putting a blower on it or spray if it is going to be a track car.

If I go with a blower, what will I have to change. I planned on buying new t/b & plenum, intake manifold, heads, stage 2 comp cams and naturally the injectors and fuel rails. Will I have to go with parts specific for a blower set up, or do I just bolt it on and get it tuned...

Im becoming more and more anti bolt on every day. The only bolt ons that are worth their coin are LT headers. TB/plenum is a waste of money as far as i am concerned.

If your gonna spend money on n/a, go for the heavy hitter stuff= cams, heads, headers. when it comes down to it, for bolt on cars whoever has the lower gear is gonna win 9/10x with drivers who no what the heck they are doing.

^ lol nice sig

for $5k, you can probably build a pretty good n/a setup, but it still won't be as quick as a nitrous or s/c setup. you can bolt a supercharger onto your stock engine (fuel upgrades are necessary of course), get it tuned, and get back on the road. that's what i did at first, of course i had a throttle body/plenum and cat-back exhaust, but other than that i was bone stock. that setup made 350 rwhp at about 8 psi of boost. after that got boring, i rebuilt with all the parts you see in my sig and with the same pulley on the s/c i'm pushing about 420 rwhp.

I just looked at a Vortec... I hear what your saying about the N/A and it being a waste of $. If i roll with the vortec, I was planning on buying new heads, cams, and intake manifold anyways. would it be wise to still go that route? I already have 3.73s a buddy gave me.

N/A is not a waste of money anymore with the new trickflow heads. People bash on the heads saying that they "dont perform" or Make more hp. People buying those heads are not using them to their potential. The truth is, is you have those heads and pair them with the right cams, they make 350 - 370 rwhp on a stock block (thats with full bolt ons and full exhaust including long tubes). I contacted Ron from Fox Lake Racing and he confirmed this to me.It's possible to make 400+ rwhp with these heads but thats already a different story (high compression, radical cams and stokers etc) But the point is if you do the heads first and then you get blown, then you will seriously be making alot more power than most people. Those heads flow better than stock cobra heads (stock 03-04 cobra heads flow 235cfm intake/ trickflows flow 240cfm) plus the trickflows can be ported too (ported flow 272 cfm from Fox Lake) If you boost your stock car now, on 8lbs of boost you will be making as much as with these tfs heads so its solely up to what you want.
