ok so this is an against the grain way to break in your motor, seems to have proof and for that matter kinda makes sense really. tell me what you think

very interesting agree with some of it. It make some sense which is why you want to change your driving characteristics speed up slow down etc. And i totally agree with oil change first 20 - 100 miles.

ive built 2 car motors so far, and kinda did this....they arent big motors so i didnt really care that much, but i never had problems with the first one, and the second one i built recently and its my dd now. So no idea if it works, but the way i see it whats the worst that could happen?

break in=drive it like you stole it! Although I am always guilty of not channging the oil in a new car till the first 2k miles or so.

this is a really good read but this method has been used for, at least, the last ten years. I race pocketbikes, and used to race karts and motocross as a kid. This is the exact method we have always used, in fact, most other racers/mechanics were doin it too.

I thought this method was pretty much the norm now, but I guess not.

ive known about it for years and years now. Im just finding myself a bit nervious about doing it on a freshly rebult 4.6 since i happen to love driving the car the last thing i want is for it to be weak and have a bad break in. But for some reason i still feel like i shouldnt do it, even tho as long as i dont have to dyno it im probebly going to bring it to the back roads like a mile from the house and just do exactally what he says, and of course hope i dont get caught. If i knew there wouldnt be leaks or anything id probebly tow it to the strip and just do it there...but my experiance has been i dont always get so lucky when everything is back together, my luck the car wouldnt start if i towed it to the track lol

Wow, the one thing that I thought you would want to take the most care breaking in requires the least. lol If i build a motor, i think that the first drive is going to be wild!!! Now does this apply to boosted applications as well or just to N/A??? I dont know if that was addressed in the article or not but i just thought to ask.

don't take this method as just takin it out and hammering on it. The idea is just to heat cycle the motor under a harder than normal load so that the rings seat properly with the finer honing that is used to day. I've never done it on a new build because, to put it frankly, I havent built anything other than small liquid cooled two stroke motors in the last few years.

I'm sure it's the same for a boosted motor. Just dont hammer on it. Go through the multiple heats cycles, each time putting a bigger and bigger load on it.
