Question Question about verts and HPDE

I have yet to by a Mustang, but I'm looking for an SN95 to drive daily, maybe start taking to HPDE events, and the occasional drag. I'm familiar enough with drag and NHRA's leniency above 11.99, but part of me wants a convertible, since my last car was (01 MR2 Spyder). I know they're a bit heavier, and I know verts in general aren't known for their handling compared to their hard top counterparts. My question is will a bar like this: http://www.americanmuscle.com/cldecocoli9b1.html satisfy SCCA tech (and I guess NHRA guidelines as well, since I intend to be sub-13.49).

I would say probably not since it doesn't give you any rollover protection

No it does not. Those bars are not designed to protect you or provide any support in any way. They are strictly appearance mods. I know the companies that sell them typically have to mention or have small print somewhere saying they are not to be used in place of a rollbar or for safety purposes. You would need to get an actual roll cage.

+1 on this one ^^^^. Although, it did feel like it tied the car together a bit for me.

ct - it will stiffen ur ride a little because it has a solid beam running through it that is bolted to your car. its essentially a sway bar for convertibles that are prettied up, haha. but that sway bar wont save your life!

You will want to run an actual roll bar. A removable hard top isn't going to do **** in a roll over. I have seen cars with removable hard tops roll on video and the roofs do not even last one roll.

With any club and HPDE's you are going to need a roll bar.

The vert while not ideal for the track will still be a fun car. If you are not trying to stay in class, make one of your first mods Full Length Subframe Connectors to reduce flex. The stock vert ones are a shorter weaker design.

I thought about trying to do a rollbar and have it painted either gold or true blue to match the car instead of a light bar...but i still dont know how i feel about that one.

I decided against a roll bar because I figure the windsheild is gonna buckle and cut my head off anyways.. so I went for style.

And plus 1 to what jmac said.
